After more than 9 successful years as the CEO of Perstorp Group, Jan Secher has decided to step down. This decision is based on a personal direction set more than a year ago, prior to the acquisition by PCG, allowing for a full search process to be conducted for his replacement. Ib Jensen has been CFO of Perstorp for the past year and was considered the most qualified candidate based on his knowledge of the company, long term experience of the specialty chemicals industry and high level of appreciation in both Perstorp as well as in PCG. Previous experience include CFO and executive roles within Finance and IT at companies such as Arxada, Lonza, Syngenta, Danisco and LEGO.

“I have had the pleasure to lead Perstorp through an exciting transformation, which has formed the company to what we are today; a sustainability frontrunner with a growing share of specialty chemicals in the portfolio. This has been the crowning of my professional career and I have been surrounded with fantastic and inspiring people. I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all, externally as internally for a tremendous support. The company is entering a new chapter in its more than 140 year history and with PCG as our owner, a series of opportunities are opening well beyond what we have seen in the past. It serves as the perfect timing to hand over the reins to a most capable leader. I am proud of the company and the extraordinary team that Ib now takes over to lead. I wish him and the team all the success in the future”, Jan Secher comments.

“On behalf of PCG, I am delighted to welcome Ib, as the new CEO of Perstorp. He is an experienced executive leader, with a strong and deep understanding of the specialty chemicals industry on top of a solid track record in business optimization and financial management. He plays a key leadership role in the integration of Perstorp into the PCG family, while ensuring that Perstorp’s business is uninterrupted. His insights, knowledge and leadership will be invaluable as we work towards unlocking the synergies between Perstorp and PCG, in bringing the company through its next phase. We look forward to working with him.

I also would like to put on record my appreciation and gratitude to Jan for his contribution for the past nine years. As the CEO, he led the company through challenging times, which required innovative solutions and decisions and has been instrumental to Perstorp’s achievements and growth in the specialty business. More importantly, he helped to steer the company to play a pioneering role in sustainability particularly in the development of pro-environment solutions for its customers. I am confident that Perstorp will continue to benefit from the foundation that he has built,” says Mohd Yusri Mohamed Yusof, PCG Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer.

“It is an honor to take over as CEO from Jan Secher and I look forward to lead Perstorp in this new exciting phase. With PCG as the new owners, their commitment and the support from the strong Executive Leadership Team, I feel confident about a successful time ahead of us”, Ib Jensen comments.

Jan Secher remains in the CEO role until March 1st and will thereafter serve as an advisor to the new CEO and the Chairman, focusing on strategy and transferring external relationships. Monica Jönsson, currently deputy CFO, will take on the role as CFO when Ib Jensen assumes the position as CEO. PCG is fully committed to the Executive Leadership Team of Perstorp and expects the team to continue the successful integration work as well as dealing with the volatile global macro situation.

New IDC at Pharmapack: Airnov’s Latest Innovation to Be on Display to the World at Upcoming Event

New IDC at Pharmapack: Airnov’s Latest Innovation to Be on Display to the World at Upcoming Event

  • The new desiccant closure has been developed to reduce the number of components needed to have a complete desiccant system for pharmaceutical bottles
  • Solution to cover both US and European market standards
  • Pharmapack 2023 to take place at Paris Expo on February 1-2, with Airnov located at booth H44 and the new IDC also on display at the Innovation Gallery

Airnov Healthcare Packaging, a global leader in controlled atmosphere packaging, has launched a brand-new advanced solution which promises to provide substantial benefits to the pharmaceutical industry.

IDC (Integrated Desiccant Closure), enables manufacturers to reduce the number of components that would typically form a complete desiccant system in a bottle by integrating the desiccant into the closure.

The unique design, which is protected by two patents, is expected to be adaptable on SP 400 bottles and also includes a child-resistant system and a new tamper-evident disk on the top, with a key goal of the IDC being able to unify packaging standards globally.

In the US and European markets, there are different sizes and approaches to standard bottles and the ways in which desiccants are integrated into them. With the newly launched IDC , Airnov is offering a solution that covers both market standards, reducing the need for complex bottle packaging in each region.

Airnov’s newly launched IDC (Integrated Desiccant Closure).

The IDC can be leveraged for the protection of all sensitive products which require safeguarding against humidity, including various pharmaceutical medicines which risk being spoiled by exposure to moisture.

“This is why we are excited to bring IDC to Pharmapack,” commented Dr. Elisa Le Floch, product lines manager at Airnov. “With this product, we can support companies operating in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and diagnostic sectors by removing several operational steps on their filling lines.”

As well as these numerous practical benefits, visitors to Pharmapack will also be able to see IDC on display at the Innovation Gallery and experience first-hand how it can support key environmental objectives by cutting the use of materials in comparison to incumbents currently on the market.

“Sustainability will always be front and center of our product development, and IDC is no different in that respect,” Elisa Le Floch added. “Our job is to make the lives of our customers easier with efficient, smart solutions that also deliver on important environmental metrics.”

Airnov’s newly launched IDC (Integrated Desiccant Closure).

IDC- Key features at a glance:

  • IDC is developed to be compatible with a large range of SP 33/400 bottles, providing flexibility when selecting a compatible bottle supplier.
  • Inside the integrated desiccant chamber, the fill can be made of different sorbents, including silica gel, molecular sieve or EQius.
  • The new tamper-evident system is located on top of the closure. Through the color contrast between the upper and the inner cap, the first opening is made obvious to the end-user.
  • The child resistant system is integrated with a push and turn. This makes it easy to open and reclose for a wide section of the public, including for the elderly.
  • Once reclosed, the IDC is airtight, ensuring the in-use shelf-life for sensitive products.

Hasco’s Ejector Portfolio is Extended

Hasco’s Ejector Portfolio is Extended

HASCO’s extensive ejector portfolio for the efficient demoulding of parts from injection moulding, compression moulding and diecasting tools has been further extended with a variety of ejector pins, ejector sleeves and flat ejector pins.

With over 600 new additional versions, HASCO offers its customers maximum flexibility that allows individual selection of the most suitable product for every application.

Ejectors for every application

The proven standard programme of hardened or nitrided ejectors with conical head or shouldered, with or without DLC coating, has repeatedly been supplemented in the last few years by a number of innovative products.

The ejector pins Z410/… with anti-twist head, for example, allow precision centring of individually contoured ejector or core pins in the mould. The flat ejector pins Z4656/… and Z4655/… with two or four corner radii are preferably used in critical areas of injection moulding tools such as ribs or crosspieces. With the hardened and nitrided ejector sleeves Z458/…, complex articles can be demoulded safely and effectively. Especially for particularly long ejector strokes, the ejector sleeves Z4501/… have a longer guide bore of 100 mm in all the available sizes.

The innovative ejector pins Z401/… with ventilation allow improved mould performance. Via the ventilation surfaces, the air in the cavity can easily escape. The new shouldered DLC-coated ejector pins Z4430/… of hardened HSS with optimum heat resistance are suitable, particularly at high mould temperatures and because of their dry running properties, for clean room applications.

With these extensive additions, HASCO is closing further gaps in its range and thus offers its customers unlimited possibilities in the field of demoulding.

Individual online configuration

With the user-friendly ejector configurator, HASCO makes it possible for its customers to easily configure online individually cut-to-length ejectors in four tolerances from 0/+2 to +/-0.01 mm that are well-proven in mouldmaking. With just a few clicks, the length can be defined, while the delivery time and price can also be directly viewed. The ejector configurator is a flexibly designed tool that simplifies and speeds up the ordering process. Short delivery times guarantee maximum efficiency and reliability for the entire production process.

Streamrunner Multicolour – Multi-Component Injection Moulding at a New Level

Streamrunner Multicolour – Multi-Component Injection Moulding at a New Level

With the additively manufactured HASCO Streamrunner, a new age has begun in the world of hot runner technology. Developed with state-of-the-art technologies, this product creates new possibilities for mouldmakers and injection moulders.

Design freedom in new dimensions

The Streamrunner is an additively manufactured hot runner with maximum design freedom. With this technology the flow channels can be optimally designed in rheological terms by completely avoiding sharp edges and areas with poor throughflow properties. This gentle passage of the melt leads to considerably lower shear rates and consequently to better quality of the injection-moulded parts. Colour changes can also be carried out faster through the flow-optimised design because the material can be guided via large deflection radii.

Multi-component injection moulding at a new level

Through the free three-dimensional design of the runners, completely new possibilities are also created in multi-component injection moulding. Different plastic components or colours can be spread over a very small space and the runners can be intertwined. This allows product designers to overcome existing restrictions in the design of plastic mouldings and to utilise new design options.

Compact and efficient

Because the hot runner gets by without separate diverting elements, very small nozzle gaps can be achieved. Depending on the chosen nozzle size, cavity-to-cavity distances (pitch) from 18 mm can be deployed. The manifold height can also be made 20-30 mm lower than with conventional manifold blocks.

As with all other hot runner systems from HASCO hot runner, the Streamrunner can be adapted individually for the respective application not only as regards the form and size. If desired, it is also available as a fully wired modular system or as a completely assembled hot half with precisely coordinated control technology.

Through the use of the Streamrunner, injection-moulded parts can be produced cost-effectively. The compact design requires smaller mould sizes and thus smaller injection moulding machines for production. In addition, the low mass of the manifold block reduces energy consumption, thus achieving an additional cost saving.

Top quality – additively manufactured

HASCO keeps a close watch on the rapid developments being made in the field of additive manufacturing and constantly updates the manufacture of the Streamrunner to take the latest innovations into account. New developments are tested in-house in the company’s technical centre and constantly optimised. HASCO hot runner guarantees the highest quality standards to ISO 9001.

Engel India Bullish on Growth in India Market

Engel India Bullish on Growth in India Market

Mumbai – The Indian market continues to open up huge potential for the Austrian injection moulding manufacturer Engel. After a year dominated by Covid, it achieved record sales in the last financial year 2021-22.

“We expect an annual growth rate of up to 20 percent, depending of course on market and geopolitical developments. In order to cope with the growth even better, we moved into new, very modern offices in Mumbai at the beginning of this year. We have thus created the basis to grow further in terms of personnel and to welcome even more customers for project meetings and training in our own premises,” said Stalinjose Selvanayagam, General Manager, ENGEL India.

In an email response, the company said, “We are continuously evaluating the opportunities and possibilities and are also talking about further investment in India. Currently, however, there are no concrete plans to report.”

Currently, Engel India’s primary tasks are sales, service support and spare parts support besides offering training to customers. The decisive factor is always the demand, the needs of our customers. The company feels that it is important to be close to its customers in all regions of the world.

“We currently have 24 employees in India, but only ten of them are based in Mumbai. There are additional sales offices in Chennai, Delhi and, more recently, in Pune, and our service technicians are also based in various industrial regions. The service network is constantly being expanded.”

Engel has traditionally had a very strong presence in the Indian automotive industry, especially with OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers. Although uncertainty due to Covid and global political tensions is currently postponing investments, it expects further growth in this industry in the medium and long term. In addition, the packaging and medical sectors open up a lot of potential. “Both sectors are recording good growth rates. Here the demand for all-electric injection moulding machines from European development is increasing. In addition, t-win machines from Engel’s second brand Wintec are increasingly in demand.”

Engel India is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Engel Austria GmbH and are responsible for the entire Indian market and beyond that the SAARC region with the exception of Pakistan.

XSYS Launches a Complete Guide of Best Practices in the Use of Washout Solvents For Consistent Plate Quality

XSYS Launches a Complete Guide of Best Practices in the Use of Washout Solvents For Consistent Plate Quality

Common quality issues associated with washout solvents in flexo plate making is the topic of a new technical paper by XSYS. The insightful guide which is entitled “XSYS WASHOUT SOLVENTS 101 – How can washout solvents contribute to consistent plate quality?” examines some of the often-heard myths surrounding the washout process and explains the adverse effects the incorrect use of washout solvents can have on the final print quality.

The guide highlights the importance of maintaining the right balance of components in the special type of solvent, such as XSYS nylosolv A, used in flexo plate making systems. If this part of the process is neglected, the effectiveness of the washout is compromised and numerous issues with the print quality can occur, including so-called rice-grain effect, register problems, or missing halftone dots. As well as providing solutions to some of these common problems, the new guide also explains the history of nylosolv, which was the first chlorine-free washout solvent on the market, and the science behind each of its components.

“We are always keen to share the vast pool of knowledge we have amassed here at XSYS to help our customers maximize productivity, guarantee high quality, and reduce plate waste,” said Simon Top, Product Manager nyloflex. “This new technical guide is another great example of how XSYS, as a leading supplier to the flexo industry, not only provides best-in-class solutions, but also delivers more value so our customers can produce brilliant results.

“As we conclude in WASHOUT SOLVENTS 101, not only does correctly adjusted washout solvent ensure that the best plate quality is produced, it also helps to increase equipment efficiency and longevity which will result in significant cost savings, higher productivity and more sustainable production,” said Stephan Reis, Global Strategic Marketing Director, in closing.

The XSYS WASHOUT SOLVENTS 101 guide is freely available in multiple languages and can be downloaded here.
